The Perquimans County Fire Marshal division works to prevent and/or reduce the incidence of fire by increasing the awareness and knowledge of the residents and businesses regarding fire safety, and by ensuring compliance with the North Carolina Fire Code.  This work is accomplished through fire prevention education, fire investigations and compliance inspections.

  • Failure to have fire protection systems serviced
    • fire alarms, sprinkler systems (annual test)
    • hood suppression systems (six month test)
  • Improper use of extension cords
  • Power strips plugged together in a series
  • Inoperative exit signs and emergency lighting
  • Failure to post address numbers
  • Improper locking devices on required exits
  • Poor housekeeping and storage practices
  • Failure to have evacuation plans and employee training
  • Failure to maintain/service electrical, heating and other appliances
